|

Hi guys,
I have a weird issue with my Tyan Tiger S2722. The server boots fine,
memory checks out, the OS loads....but the server is letting out a steady
beep. It's definitely a diagnostic beep, but there's no error. It's a
single, steady beep. I want to put the server back into the co-location
center but I can't until I get the beep turned off.
Do you have any ideas what might be causing this? I don't think it's a
memory error because all 2GB of memory counts up fine and the OS detects all
of the RAM. I really don't think anything is wrong so what I really want to
do is just shut the beep off. Can I do this?
Thanks guys.

Nevermind.... My chassis has dual power supplies and I only had one plugged
in. The down power supply was triggering the motherboard alarm.

Ha. Suppose so. But as an officially installed (self appointed) member
of the order of misused, and over used words, I am compelled by the
charter to repell such abuses where so ever I find them. Mind, poor
grammer is fine. Even humorous (or attempts there at) is approved. But
culturally sponsored, closed circuit deductive reasoning inspired abuses
such as that seen with the afore flagged "i" word, shall not be
tollorated. Er, or at least they shall be sniviled at, and met with
strenuous stomach turning and wreaching, wherein, mind, outright
vomiting would not be considered too severe.

Just a thought... is this server setup with a RAID controller? Those often
have alarms on them as well. Try disconnecting the PC speaker cable from
the motherboard and see if you still get the beep,

Yes, it as.

Yes, this RAID controller has a speaker.

There is no such cable. This motherboard apparently has a speaker that's
built onto the board. It's really loud too.
That said, I posted a follow-up saying that I found the problem. My new
case has dual power supplies and I had only plugged on in.
