I have searched for benchmarks on the celeron 2.7 ghz. Does anyone
have some benchmarks to post or a link. I know the earlier celerons
are not not very competitive, but what about the latest offerings?

TIA

Well, the 2.7GHz Celeron has yet to be released from Intel, so it's
not actually available, but it should be here in a few weeks.
Unfortunately it remains unchanged from the 1.7GHz Celeron of days
gone by, and while the performance of earlier Celerons were not very
competitive, this one should be even worse.

This chip is still hobbled by a TINY 128KB of L2 cache and only runs
at a 400MHz bus speed. Considering that the P4 core is quite
data-hungry, this leaves the processor sitting around twiddling it's
thumbs most of the time, and as a result, performance stinks.

The last benchmarks I've seen of the Celeron line are in Tom's giant
benchmark of *** near every Intel and AMD CPU, listed here:

http://www.tomshardware.com/cpu/20030217/index.html

Here the Celeron 2.0GHz is the fastest Celeron tested, and it tends to
be bested by the AMD AthlonXP 1500+. My guess is that the Celeron
2.7GHz will be roughly comparable to an AthlonXP 2000+. Considering
that it's likely to be priced about the same as an AthlonXP 2600+ or
2700+, the picture doesn't look so good for this new Celeron. If
you're looking for a real budget system, AMD's AthlonXP is definitely
the way to go here.
