Hi all,

I was looking for a dedicated NG for modem information sharing, but
couldn't find it via google. I hope someone here could point me into
the right direction:

My neighbour bought a so called soft modem produced by Dynalink (PCI,
56k6). She asked me if I would be able to help her install it. She
runs Win98. Since I had such a modem years ago, I told her I could
probably help her. I remembered these things want a virtual com port
since they're not real hardware. For my old modem I remember somehow I
was able to establish this "com3" port. However, this *** Dynalink
modem she bought, only wants to install at LPT1. IMHO this is not a
good idea. Also after a "successful" installation, the modem (of
course) will not communicate.

If somebody has a clue how to solve this *** matter, I (and
especially my neighbour) would really appreciate.

Best regards,

Chris

BTW please send your reaction to my e-mail address too. Thanks!

No, I checked that. After "proper" installation following the
manual (where it suggested to be installed at LPT1), it would
only be set at COM1, which is not a virtual port, but actually
being used by Mr. Mouse. The guy from the store who sold my
neighbour the modem wasn't very helpful. As a matter of fact,
he was even quite rude. I don't care if someone tells me I'm
an idiot, when he tells me *how* I'm wrong. But that sucker
wasn't able himself to tell me what I did wrong, and how to
get the modem function properly. So in the end we returned the
modem and decided not to buy there anymore.

Thanks for the feedback (also those by e-mail).

Cheers,
Chris
