The P4 - Plain and simple. Games are where the "P" rating really hold true,
but in DV and the like the Ahtlons are hard-pressed to keep up with a P4.
The 2.0GHz Northwood is the first CPU that could break the 30fps (NTSC) mark
for encoding to DivX as per the standard Tom's Hardware
(www.tomshardware.com) tests. Putting it on a good board is paramount,
though - Even the best chips can be crippled by a shoddy chipset. An I865
or I875 would be best because of the twin DDR access (Not to mention you
could get an 800MHz FSB chip in the future and drop it straight in).
Cheers,
Jon.
