Those of you having problems understanding histograms may find this article
useful. It also has a section on using a "levels" tool to adjust image
tonality.

Thanks for a great link. Up until now I had no idea how to use, let
alone understand, histograms. I simply want to 'scan my slides'. Now
I might be able to do some neat fine tuning!
