I use black ink 98% of the time. However, the printing window is
showing that my color cartridge is running down simultaneously with
the black... When I try to print in color, all I get is a B&W image---
what's Epson trying to do??? |

Your color ink is used during cleaning cycles. What do you have it set to
print color or b & w? Have you run a nozzle check to make sure that the
color inks are printing?

What some people seem unaware of or possibly ignore is the fact that Epson
use underprinting: printing black over a coloured background. This came to
light from an authoritative review by PC-Pro magazine where 2 tested
manufacturers admitted this but Canon declined to comment.
It is quite plain that apart from normal cleaning or rather priming cycles,
printer manufacturers are way ahead in the ink wastage game. You should not
expect to conserve much coloured ink because you only or primarily print
black.
