Does anyone know how the non-ultra version of the 6800 is predicted to
stack up against the 9800XT? I ask because NVDIA's MSRP on the 6800
will be $299 and the 9800XT is still selling at around $400. Should I
wait a couple a months and get the 6800?

Thanks!

Really wait until the cards are out before being all HYPED UP.

Like come on, we will never see major jaw dropping performance margins like
we have in the past.

I rememebr that a new video card came out there was at least 20% performance
boost. Now a days like 2%, at best 5% average boost at best, with a
$399-$499 price tag for it. I'm no longer alll white knuckled and anxious
about it anymore.

Presumably you haven't seen the NV40 benchmarks then! Its probably the
biggest jump in graphics performance *ever*. The NV40 is approximately 2x
the speed of the 5950 Ultra. Never before have I seen a 2x speed
improvement when moving from one generation to the next. If the new ATI
chips are even faster, it will be quite simply astounding.

Chip.

Astonding the prices attached to them to.. I would not doubt $499 - 599,
next generation $599 - 699, keep slapping another $100 as they go?

I was the benchmarks though, they are FINALLY impresive.

Please enlighten us as to which new videocards which represented a new
architecture only increased performance 2-5%. Really, we would like to
know.

Mmm, early benchmarks seem to differ. But one thing newer cards always
shine in is better performance in certain key areas.. like the first
wave of DX9 cards...where like babies... and have their limitations,
but with the coming second wave, DX9 cards are grown up... tested and
tried...

BTW remember the 9800 Pro/Xt ... in most games you don't see it...
untill you open FSAA and AF .. because the raw power of a 9800 Pro/Xt
is designed for one thing..to make high levels of FSAA and AF
possible....UT2004 in 4x anti-aliasing with 4x AF ...without a
problem... now that is what a graphic card can deliver!
