Until Thursday of last week I had an MSI 9200 card in my machine and
it was running Flightsim 2004 at a respectable 98% perfect level for
me . I decided to go the whole hog and get the other 2% by buying a
9800 Pro BIG MISTAKE 2004 is now running at least 10% worse than with
my 9200 MSI . I have a feeling that something is wrong somewhere but
cannot put my finger on it I have a 3200 AMD Atholone CPU and 1024 of
RAM any advice please before I take this heap of *** back where it
came from on Tuesday morning .

Take that "heap of ***" back. How dare ATI produce complete crap like the
9800 PRO ! Ask for a refund....and be sure to tell them your GF4 was far
superior so they can ridicule you as you leave the store.
That's my advice, Grant.

How you can come to the conclusion that the 9800 pro is a "heap of ***"
when you, yourself, stated that you think "something is wrong somewhere but
cannot put my finger on it" - is beyond me.

Remove the ATI drivers you currently have installed, thoroughly and
completely. Then install the Cat 4.4's off ATI's web site.

And while you are at it ensure the card is running on a single power
source ... no other drives etc hanging off it.

BTW my 9800 Pro is the single best graphics card I have ever had and I
have had a few over the years.

I agree, it rocks! I've had my 9800 Pro for close to ten months now and
don't see it coming out of my system anytime soon.

The 128mb card is fine. You probably didn't remove all the old drivers from
your previous card. If you don't know how to do that do a fresh OS install
and you'll be fine.

Naaah, he is probably tooooo stoooopid and should send the computer back to
the manufacturer. I bet he thinks that is a nice cup holder that they
installed on the system.

An MSI Radeon 9200SE? On both the USA and Taiwan sites, I can't see that
they make a standard 9200. http://snipurl.com/641j

" I decided to go the whole hog and get the other 2% by buying a 9800 Pro

That sounds like driver conflicts.

" I have a feeling that something is wrong somewhere but cannot put my

Pull your pants down, spread your cheeks, and it should be right in the
middle
..

" I have a 3200 AMD Atholone CPU and 1024 of RAM "

Atholone? If you can state your entire system, then it might help people in
solving your problems.

" any advice please before I take this heap of *** back where it came from

1) Download the newest ATI drivers from
http://www.ati.com/support/driver.html and keep them in a folder for later.
2) Remove all ATI drivers in the normal way.
3) Use Driver Cleaner 3: http://www.driverheaven.net/cleaner/
4) Re-boot. Install new drivers. Re-boot again.

Hmmm....your 9800 Pro doesn't have the screaming performance of that MSI
9200. The 9200 is one slow, crippled POS in any version. It makes the 9000
Pro look good. And it's a POS too. I'm guessing you just slapped it in, let
Windows autodetect it, and allowed Windows to install the existing driver.
Remove the 9800 Pro from the device manager. Then remove ALL traces of the
old drivers, using Add/Remove Programs, and then scoured the registry for
all traces of the old drivers, restart and THEN install the new Catalysts.
Which you should have downloaded to your HDD beforehand.

Grant .

you tried running 3dmark2003?
if your PC/GFX are configured properly you should expect a score of around
5000-6000.
if you dont get that then something is wrong. reinstall latest drivers etc.
if you do get a good score then it could be your game. check for a patch.
