|
|
I have a Radeon 9000 Pro w/128 Mb that is installed in a dual boot
system. The original computer came with Win98fe and I recently
installed WinXP on physical "D" drive in a dual boot configuration. I
also upgraded the video card with the 9000. Installation of the ATI
drivers and Control Panel from the CD went without problem on the
WinXP system. Everything works as expected.
But, when I try to install the ATI drivers from the CD on the Win98
system nothing works right. The installation appears to go OK, but
after everything is installed, I get an error message that says there
is a problem with the AGP slot. And the ATI diagnostics fail on most
of the tests, even though the display looks OK. I know nothing is
wrong with the AGP slot, everything works perfectly on the WinXP side.
And the old card that I replaced is also an AGP card.
So I downloaded the latest driver package from the ATI website. When I
started the installation, I got an error message that said there was a
corrupt file in the package. So I downloaded just the driver package
and it installed with no problems. But when I boot the computer, it
freezes after the Windows desktop has been displayed and before the
"wait" icon on the mouse cursor changes to the "ready" icon. Everytime
I boot, it freezes. The only way I can boot to Win98 without freezing
is to delete every ATI file I can find and let it boot with just
generic Windows VGA drivers.
Any ideas will be appreciated.
