Reviews I've read of Soul Calibur 2 and Prince of Persia: Sands of Time said
that the Gamecube versions have the best colors. Not the sharpest or
smoothest or best lit, but the best colored. How is this? When I read
reviews comparing graphics hardware, usually it talks about the fill rate or
anti-aliasing or aniso filtering or T&L or shaders, but how can one type of
graphics hardware do color better than the others? |

Just a matter of opinion, I'd say. |

No idea, but it can happen. Sega Saturn vs Sony Playstation for instance,
running the same game on both, on the same TV, via S-video, the Saturn had
better color. I can't explain it either. |

You could have a detailed look inside the graphics chips to see how they
handle colour and textures through the whole pipeline. Maybe the Xbox cuts
some corners here and there for speed.
Could just be the hardware that converts to 480i though. Maybe the GC
favors slightly brighter, higher contrast images, and that's all there is to
it.

"Better" color? That's unlikely with this set of machines. There might be
slight differences, though I doubt it would be anything meaningful. I would
ignore all of that *** and just get the version for the machine that is
most convenient for you. That might mean the controller you like best,
whichever one is hooked up easiest, the one you have free memory card space
for, online support if you want it, or whatever. Most of the comparisons on
sites like IGN and Gamespot are essentially worthless. Occasionally they'll
mention something meaningful like framerate, but even then they can be so
picky that it just ends up being more BS. |
