|
|
Just thought i'd post a follow up to my problem - originally within the
thread 'K7S5A PRo USB problems' dated 14/5/04.
My pc was crashing with a BSOD more often than not just after boot-up and i
was getting rather fed up trying various fixes and getting nowhere..
To cut a long story short, the problem turned out to be my software
firewall - Agnitum's Outpost Pro.
I suspected Outpost Pro once i'd established that the pc was crashing in the
process of getting a new IP at boot-up.
An hour browsing Google for 'outpost firewall BSOD' showed a number of
others with a similar problem.
I replaced Outpost Pro with Zone Alarm and not a single BSOD yet!
Martin.
:-)
Running XP Pro with a Duron 1.3 and 2 x 256MB PC133 RAM. |

Another option is Kerio's personal firewall, it's free for home use.
This firewall program is superior, imho, to zonealarm, b/c it's much
more configurable. Kerio PF is based on the old "tiny personal
firewall" free program.

Thanks for the suggestion.
I lost the ADSL connection repeatedly earlier and nothing but a reboot would
get it going again - something that never happened with Outpost.
If it happens again i may consider an alternative to Zone Alarm.
Martin.
