|
|
XP2800+ Barton @ 1250Mhz (Not overlocked)
2x512 Mb Kingston 2700 synched to FSB 1:1
MSI K7N2 Delta
Powercolor Radeon 9800 Pro
WindowsXP SP1
Hi, my newly built machine is having problems remaining stable under
load.
I`m pretty sure it's temperature related, but can`t put my finger on
it.
Idle, the cpu temp is approx 37C.
Under load after as little as 2-3 minutes this rises to around 50C.
After a few more minutes the computer will 'hang' (no gfx cirruption,
just a complete freeze - including sound).
Does this rise in temperature under load look troublesome, or is it
completely normal?
Thanks for any advice,
mitch

You're running the FSB at 100MHz. Why, when it should be 166MHz.

Nothing wrong with that. |

That's still ok, but it's not great. What cooler do you have? |

Temps look normal for a retail cooler. Set your FSB to 166MHz and try |
again. If you still have problems, do a repair install to win xp.

Nope - definitely @ 166. The XP2800 is running at 2250Mhz NOT
1250Mhz. - my bad. :)

You think its a software issue rather than hardware then?

Depends on which core - thoroughbred or barton.
Correct me if I`m wrong.

Barton xp2800 runs at 2075. I don't think there is a xp2800 T'bred. If
you're running at 2250, you are overclocked to an xp3200.

It should be running at 12.5x166, approx. 2083MHz depending on if your |
board uses a flat 166 or 166.67 for the 166MHz setting. So if yours is
really 2250Mhz, then it's running 13.5x 166.67. You will probably need
extra vcore for this setting to be stable. You might want to lower the
multiplier back to 12.5 (or less) until you find the problem. Suggest
running memtest from floppy or cd.
