This may be old, but I need help. System consists of an XP2100+ running
at 2.17 on an Asus A7N8X, plenty cool. What can I replace it with that will
cool as well and be quieter at the same time?
Thanks in advance. sdlomi |

Vantec Aeroflow! Less noise, better cooling! The Vantec cooled my XP2100
T'bred before I got my XP2500 Barton . Works well on the Barton also ;-)

Has either of you tried it (or know someone who did) on an Asus or other |
mobo with "Q-fan technology"--asus' brandname for fan speed control? Saw
one on eBay with warning that it "may not.....". thanks, again, sdlomi |

Nope. I'm running my Vantecs on Shuttle AN35Ns. I don't think I would mess
around with a speed control on the Vantec. It uses a "TMD" fan. Anyone out
there have any experience with speed control on the Vantec??

I'm using the fan control that came with the TT TR2-M2 with the Aeroflow. |
Low=about 3700rpm, med = 4600, high = full speed(about 5600). I use the
medium setting.

Well I ran the Aeroflow with Asus Q-fan enabled but I really didn't like
the way Q-fan worked, the TMD fan actually seemed to get louder at some
of the lower RPMs, the Aeroflow fan at full speed is pretty quite, not
bad at all. So to make a real difference in sound I had to set Q-fan at
the lowest ratio. I also noticed the Socket temp (not the CPU die temp)
would have to hit 50C before Q-fan would speed the fan back up to full
speed.
Since the Aero7+ has an adjustable fan if you used that with Q-fan you'd
want to leave the aero7+ fan at full speed and let Q-fan adjust it, if
the fan spins too slow some boards will shut down thinking the fan has
died.

man you have to check out the Zalman NPS7000a-Cu (all copper) very heavy
but kick@ss cooling. I have never seen anything like this. And very
quiet. at full speed my power supply is louder (nspire 300watt dual fan)
I was looking at thermal electric cooling for more than twice the price
but im very happy i went with this... |

I'm using an adjustable fan on my Aeroflow, set to 2500 RPM, with 2-80mm
thermal sensor case fans in am Antec full tower, all I hear are the hard
drives spinning.
Barton @ 2315Mhz, on-die temp peeks at about 64C in the summer with
prime95 so why bother? Had this thing for 7 months now, has never
crashed once! Hope my AMD64 is this good! :)
Cheers,

Go for the Aerocool Deep Impact. I have this running on a XP2100+
overclocked to 10x200 (2GHz) and it runs at about 45C (full load running
seti@home with case on) and a single rear case fan turned down very low with
a fan controller (so you can't hear it). The deep impact itself is only
24dbA so its very quiet.
If the CPU is idle I'm at low 40's and non-overclocked I'm in the mid 30's
(in celcius :)
