|
I'm looking to build a cheap but fast gaming machine for my brother.
I have several XP1700+ JIUHB 0302 CPU's that I stockpiled from excaliberpc
after getting my first one to easily hit 2.2ghz (200x11).
I've tested all of them and they are all winners :)
So... I'm just looking for a cheap NForce2 Ultra 400 board that will do
200mhz with good memory (Kingston HyperX PC3000).
No need for SATA, Firewire, RAID, etc.
The Albatron KX18d appears the be the least expensive of the NForce 2 Ultra
400 motherboards. I've read a few reviews and it looks like it gets the job
done, and I can get them for around $60 shipped.
Any other recommendations?
Thanks

I don't see anything particularly compelling that would make be choose this
board over the Albatron...
What makes this board better than the albatron?

For $60 the Albatron is still at the top of my list...

Well that helps...
Gee...I guess I won't buy an Albatron, because it's an Albatron. Do you
have anything objective to contribute?
Obviously you know nothing about Albatron.
Albatron is a newcomer to the mobo scene, true, and is run by the
founder of Gigabyte, Jack Ko. One of it's other divisions is MoniVision, a
maker of high end LCD displays, plasma displays, and LCD tv's.
Albatron is not and should not be considered among the ranks of PC
Chips.
Now... does anyone else have a good reason for me not to consider
Albatron's NForce 2 Ultra 400 offering?
Thanks,
Erik

*** Erik it's your money by all means go buy an Albatron. I've been using Epox
boards and haven't had any problems at all. My latest board was the ep-8rda3g.
It's definitely a nothing special board but that's sort of what makes it
special. It's a great overclocker and very stable. Is it better than the
Albatron, hell I don't know but I like it's total stability and it was $77 from
newegg which makes it a hell of a deal in my book.

i work at a small computer shop in AR, we use some of the albatron |
products in some of our computers. never had a problem with any of
them. some of the review sites also say they have had good luck with
them. from what i heard, some of their 'higher-ups' came from
gigabyte. check some of the review sites and see what they say (dont
remember which ones though) |

Don't worry, people down Soltek but I have had nothing but excellent results |
with mine. They actually want you to overclock with there boards and have
extensive bios options to do so. Might wanna give them a look as well. |

A bit of a random question but does the soltek board have a plastic or
metal socket lever? I'm also going to be getting a nforce board but I'd
prefer it to have a metal lever as I once snapped a crappy plastic lever
on a asus board. |
