Got an old machines gathering dust, maybe this might be an interesting
experiment... dust off a box with 128 memory and see if you like this new
install. I feel this might represent a longer life span to some of the
older systems.
A new, unofficial derivative of MEPIS Linux aimed at computers with as
little as 128 MB of RAM. Tis running on 0012434240 a LPMINI-tower

Ben, I have not given up, but tired easy of chasing down restore disks.
Recently I have done 22 Mepis installs, in a number of rebuilt AMD, and
Intel machines that I could not locate a recovery disk. Or did not want
to do the win2k install.
The the older students are a bit hesitant at first with a Linux computer,
but with a few show and tell moments and a little follow-up instructions a
day later they do not seem to care, if the home work will print they are
pleased. This different with the younger students they are grateful, for
any working computer/printer.
I am still looking but seems the OS restore disks are still difficult to
locate. Seems when there is a machine offed for a few dollars in a garage
sales, they do not have any supporting CDs. Donations of computers to the
centers, I am not getting the the restore disks either. But students are
getting working computers, and printers.

I've done a bit of work myself running Knoppix 7.1.5 (?) and Ubuntu 7.0.4. both
live versions and installs. Very impressive stuff. Makes me wonder whether a
local library strapped for cash wouldn't be better off running a Linux distro on
its public access computers instead of Windows XP Pro, which costs me nearly
$150 from my distributor, and I have to make it up to make a few bucks on my
cash outlay.
I'll give the Mepis distros a look in the coming weeks.
What kinds of restore disks for which models of computers and operating systems
are you looking for? ... Ben Myers

Ben
Depends on the week, and what is sitting on the repair tables... I never
know, and I would not know what I will need next week...
Their is a user/moderator in the Mepis Forums that has set up a Linux
package, or network for a number of Linux computers in his local Library.
I sent a pm asking him if he has a site for you peruse, will keep you
informed.
