|
|
My computer came with a program called Cyberlink DVD Solution. The
program is broken into Power2Go, Power2Go Express, and PowerDVD.
I've tried six ways from Sunday to back up my Quicken "Backup" file to a
CD. It will burn OK but if I reinsert it later to read it it wipes out
all the current data. If I have previously reconciled accounts with
the bank statement, the reconciliation is cancelled and all later data
is erased. I don't know what the heck is going on, except I'm tired of
having to rewrite and reconcile the figure work.
To cut a long story short - I'd like to remove the software and buy
something more reliable (and easy!). Does anyone have any
recommendations? Many thanks.

Power2Go Express appears to be a packet writing program, and should be
avoided if you want reliability. Use CDR, not RW, and Power2Go software to
create a proper CD. You can also use RW with Power2Go, but again it's not as
reliable.
Sounds like your real issue is that Quicken is requiring a packet writing
software for drag-n-drop functionality, and this is extremely unstable in
the best of circumstances. I'd have Quicken make it's backup to the hard
drive, then copy that file to CD later for backup. You may find another
drag-n-drop type program that plays better with Quicken, but it will still
be unstable. InCD and DirectCD are the 2 big players in that department. |

Install Power2go Express and format a cd.
[Quicken, File, Backup], and then point to the formatted cd.
Read on Backup in Quicken Help or Manual. |

I can't follow the post. What backup file is he backing up, he needs to
backup the current file, not just the backups Quicken makes. Of course,
any transactions made after this backup will be lost including reconciles.
If the system can read a cd, chances are the data is good, built in
error checking is very reliable.
Flash drives are great for this and other backups.

I don't use any version of Quicken, but I recall that some versions have (or
do) require a packet writing program and RW discs for the internal
auto-backup function to work. I doubt that this is really a requirement, but
just a "feature" for backing up and more particularly for moving your
Quicken work between different PCs. (synchronizing)
Obviously, this type of function is ill-conceived and somewhat outdated. If
I was using anything like this it would be with a DVD-RAM disc and an
appropriate RAM driver. I'd hope that Quicken has the option of writing the
same file to hard drive instead. |

Thanks, Dan - that's precisely what I finally did. I backed up to the
hard drive then made a backup CD from there. Worked like a charm. I
appreciate your advice.
