|
|
Most SCSI drives are alleged to be backwards compatible, so if one connects
an Ultra320 drive to a card not capable of Ultra320, in this case, an
Adaptec 2940UW, the drive will drop down to the capabilities of the card.
But, can the cable matter?
If the 2940 recognizes the drive, but errors in verifying the drive, might
it be necessary to upgrade to a 68 pin cable that can handle ultra 320, even
tho the 2940 does not handle Ultra320? |

Thanx.
I'm getting a replacement drive this week.
So, I guess I do not need to replace the cable. |

Clueless, as always.

wrong, true, wrong, wrong.
It's just the drive itself, reporting verify errors.
No data is actually transferred.

That is a thanks with 5 fingers spread vertically before

So why did you ask. Apparently you already decided where the fault was.

|
Nope. Not for those verify errors anyway. |

Most, as in: excluding HVD.

No, the controller will not negotiate higher modes than it can handle.
As for LVD, yes, the drive will drop back to SE mode provided that
the diffsens signal is connected to the drive, which it should with any
standard flat cable.

But, can the cable matter?
|
It shouldn't with internal cables.
However some external cables or cable convertors may not have a full com-
plement of wires and the drive may not automatically revert to SE mode.
In which case the controller will not recognize it at all.

|
Nope, it should handle fine.
Verify errors are drive internally generated errors.
Did you write to the drive before you did the Verify? |
