This is a very complete fully loaded system with video, sound,
accessories, external storage and extensive documentation included.
All you need to add is a standard 15 pin PC type VGA monitor that will
do 1024x768.
Remember, this is cash or trade. I'm looking for Pro audio sound
equipment like mixers, amps, effects, digital recording, computer
equipment of any kind, 500-600cc street bike, short wave radio gear,
desktop machining station, Roomba vac, transmission work on a F-150,
roof repair, interor house painting & repair, Geisha girls, whatever.
This would be an excellent starter system to reformat and learn from
the ground up or a hook it up and use it system for a person wanting
to learn Unix and Solaris on the 64 bit Ultra SPARCII platform. It
would also make a nice home, development or small business server.
It's worked well for me as a training machine and general purpose
desktop machine. I Have Seen Linux distributions for Ultra Sparc.
I assembled this system over a period of about eight months and taught
my self enough Unix and server environment hardware and software to
get a better job. NO I WON'T BREAK IT UP. All or nothing. Sorry.
The Sun Netra t 1405 is the same motherboard and memory as the Ultra
80 and E420R.
What makes a Netra t 1405 and Ultra 80 and Enterprise 420R different:
The Netra t 1405 has four hot swapable SCSI drive bays.
The Netra t 1405 has a bulletproof box. Think "Mil-Spec." There are
steel guards over the CD drive and (optional) tape drive slots. It's
definitely not a 'desktop' but makes a neat end table next to the
desk. This is an impressive looking machine. It Still has shipping
handles on front and back. It Looks like it's never been in a rack.
There are redundant power supplies. It has 3, any one can fail
completely and one degrade and the machine continues to operate.
The processors are 10 MHz slower than the Ultra 80 or E420R to comply
with the NEBS extreme reliability and durability testing these
telephone company central office machines go through. That 10 MHz
probably buys another 5,000 hours of MTBF. This is the kind of machine
millions of data and phone connections are routed through every minute
of every day. http://www.ul.com/nebs/ for info on how well these
machines must be constructed.
Operationally the Netra t 1405 is an Ultra 80 or E420R.
Solaris identifies this machine as an Ultra 80 when it boots.
All parts in server other than sound card are genuine SUN labeled

wiring diagrams, engineering manuals, and more. There's 6 Gigabytes of

Local pickup in Fredericksburg VA available.
Delivery within 100 road miles $1.25 a mile, $30 minimum, Weekends
only. I don't deliver inside Baltimore, Richmond or DC beltway. I'm
retired and HATE traffic. Will meet you somewhere in-between? You
unload. I have a bad back.
If I ship it to you, Freight will be actual amount charged me by
shipper to package and forward to you. I would recommend three boxes
for shipping, one to hold the three power supplies, one for the main
chassis, and one for the keyboard, mice, external storage, etc. This
will reduce the main chassis box weight and reduce shipping costs.
Probably be worth boxing the HDDs with the KB/M.
Payment methods:
If I ship system, I Will arrange 'private' auction on eBay for payment
and mutual protection.
If I deliver or you pick up, Cash or trade.
Make me an offer. I've recently seen 1 CPU 1GB 'bare bones' Netra t
1405s listed for $450 and more on eBay.
Trade me. I'm looking for Pro audio sound equipment like mixers, amps,
effects, digital recording, computer equipment of any kind, 500-600cc
street bike, short wave radio gear, desktop machining station, Roomba
vac, transmission work on a F-150, roof repair, interor house painting
& repair, Geisha girls, whatever.
