I'm trying to install XP on a new build. (I've used this CD recently
to re-install it on it's origimal machine, no problems: I don't think
the CD is bad.) During installation, it says it can't copy some files,
hit escape to continue. So I do, and it gets vey far along and setup
finally gives blue screen of death. Tried a few times, with a full
reformat, same thing or once it hung up at "registering components".
What could be wrong? It's new everything: P4 @ 2.8GHz w
HyperThreading, 40 GB HD, 512 MB RAM, using on-board video. This is
mayby the 4th system I've built. Without going into details, it's |

If you haven't yet tested stability with memtest86+ for
several hours ...
Be sure to check temps and voltages in the bios hardware
health screen too (if not also using a multimeter).

Just for the heck of it, you might still try copying the
files on another system. If nothing else works you might
also try using a different optical drive in the problem
system. Was the optical drive new, used, known working
recently or ??

Does it always stop at the same point, files?

???
Not much point in much further expansion of possible causes
until more common causes like memory stability are checked. |

You have a memory problem or your power supply is starting to go bad (noise)
Run memtest over night and see what you get should be no errors
It's almost a certainty it's not the CD unless it has apparent damage.
Power Supply the easiest way to trouble shoot is remove and replace |
