Hi...
I would appreciate some advice on the correct driver for my GFX card...

I have a nVidia 7800GS AGP that I am having a problem with in a W2K
PC... i.e. the card will boot up ok and display the 2D desktop display
(1280x1024 @60hz), it also runs through the DX9c graphics tests without
a problem. However, if I select any 3D game the screen will instantly
freeze and the computer lockup! I then have to carry out a hard re-boot
to get back to the desktop!

I have re-installed DX9c, and thought I would install the latest drivers
for the 7800GS AGP (512Mb)...suspecting that my GFX card may be
corrupted. Apologies if I am being blonde here, but I am not sure of
the correct selection of driver from the nVidia driver d/load site! In
the second box I seem to have a choice of 'GeForce 7 series' or 'Geforce
Go 7800/7900 laptops'(can you even install a 7800 card in a laptop! <?>)

I am being cheaky here by asking two questions... does anyone have any
thoughts on the none working 3D problem? Also which driver selection
should I opt for on the nVidia d/load? The choice's do seem a bit ambiguous.

Latest driver you'll want to use is v94.24:
http://www.nvidia.com/object/winxp_2k_94.24.html

You may also need to update the AGP driver for your motherboard. What
motherboard do you have?

FYI, "Geforce Go 7800/7900" are specially designed mobile chipsets for
inclusion in laptops. They are not the same as the desktop cards.

Ok, thanks for the info... I just d/loaded that driver. I will install it
tomorrow. The MB is an Abit A17... I did have have the ATX PSU sink on me
a little while ago, I now have a 400watt installed, I just hope the GFX
card is not damaged?

A damaged card usually will exhibit problems in 2D as well.

I presume I can get these AGP drivers from the Abit site? I know the PC I
have is getting a bit stale, but I was hoping to keep it running for
another year or so before I go dual core/PCI-E etc. Thanks again.

Abit AI7 uses the Intel i865 chipset. Download the latest drivers here:
