no matter which Office Program I am in, when I go to save or look up a file
there is a intolerable lag time each and everytime I try to go deeper into a
directory structure. I do not have this problem with anyother program. I have
even installed OpenOffice.org because of this

Sounds like a dso problem to me. Right-click on the My Computer icon on
the Windows desktop, left-click on Disconnect Network Drive, and
disconnect any mapped drives that are not currently available.
