Hello,

What's the maximum size ATA harddisk I can connect to a GigaByte GA-8PE667
Ultra mainboard, with the latest BIOS revision I could find (F3 I
believe)?

Can I expect to connect and operate, without having to install any
third-party 'disk-drivers', a 320GB ATA100 disk?

Regards,

Patrick.

In theory you can install two on each IDE connector.
So there are Primary / Secondary IDE 1,2 and
RAID /ATA 133 Green Connectors IDE 3,4 .

You can use IDE 4 & 4 either as RAID or ATA 133
( p.19 says on User's manual). But I cannot make
IDE 3&4 to show the hard disc so far...-wink
I can see on START the Promise sees the HD
OK but it is not shown in Device manager or
in My Computer. I must be doing something wrong.

I'm quiet aware of all this. I've even at one time connected a
harddisk-drive to the RAID port, but found the longer boot-time to be
pretty inconvenient. I also didn't notice any speed-increase. I think I
had to enable the RAID chipset to support a single HD, see the manual/BIOS
settings.

Anyway, I'm planning on connecting this 320GB drive as a slave to the IDE1
connector. Master on that IDE1 is currently a 120GB Maxtor driver, and I
wasn't planning on re-installing, or anything, I just need some more space
to store stuff. The 320GB is more or less right in the 'sweet spot'
currently when looking at the $/GB numbers...

Anyway, good luck with your problem, I think I'll find out myself soon
enough. wink I'll see if I can post a follow-up here with my experiences...

Regards, Patrick.
