A few relevant things (all information gathered with DriverGuide Toolkit Trial):
My operating system is Windows XP.
My video card is a NVidia GeForce 7600 GS, running driver version 6.14.10.9381.
MY BIOS, if I'm reading these specs correctly, is an Award Medallion 6.0.
My motherboard is made by ASUSTeK Computer INC., and is product number A7N266VM.

I'm running a custom-built Windows XP, which I bought from an internet cafe that was going out of business. It worked fine, but I upgraded the video card in order to bring it up to specs for modern video games, and this is where the trouble began.

After doing this, sure enough, my games ran fine and had better graphics options available, but if I attempted to watch most kinds (exceptions below) of video files on my computer, it will start to play audio, while the entire system slows down visually, whether minimizing, maximizing, calling up the Task Manager, and the screen will start refreshing at random.

There are some files that work (most of them in-game cinematics for video games) and streaming videos online and .swfs will play without error.

I reported it to the manufacturer of my video card, and they told me to update my motherboard drivers. I went to the ASUS website, but the drivers I downloaded caused my system to crash when it tried to boot up the OS after the BIOS screen.

I have little understanding or experience with updating drivers. Someone suggested I update my BIOS, but I was warned that incorrectly updating my BIOS is an easy way to turn my otherwise working computer into a high budget paperweight.

Does anyone have any thoughts? I can get more information if it's needed.
