I need to MAKE a specialized DYNAMIC mic for a laptop. Is there
ordinarily a DC voltage present in those 3.5mm jacks for
electret mics, perhaps? |

I tried to adapt phone headsets for my laptops. Results were different |
for different laptops.
The easiest way to make sure is to measure it.
If voltage is present, there'll be a resistor in series.
Otherwise, plugging in a mono microphone would make smoke.

Often; some computer mic inputs are for dynamic mics, some are for
capacitance mics and have a bias voltage across them.

If there is, don't worry about it. The supply is strictly limited and won't
upset your dynamic mike. |
