Last GW was from local GW store which is now gone. GW is a different
company and also has these emachines. Computers now coming with trial
software and extra expense to upgrade to something you wanted in the
first place. Where to go? Should I buy GW, emachine, on-line, Best
Buy or go Dell. Been three years since last purchase and now I'm on a
new learning curve. Comments, suggestions would be welcome.

Although I didn't buy a Dell a few months ago (Costco had a really good deal
on an HP), one of the options Dell did have was NO Crapware (i.e. no trial
software, no AOL, etc.).

If you are a Costco shopper, they are having a $100 off coupon the week of
Aug. 13-19 for an HP A6157C-B (Intel Viiv Processor Core 2 Duo E4400, 2GB
RAM, 320GB Hard Drive, DVD RW DL, TV Tuner with remote, 15-1 card reader and
a 22" Widescreen Monitor. Regularly $999, will be $899 the week of the sale.

I'd check the computer magazine web sites' reviews/ratings on the
configuration you want.

I've bought my last 2 computers from Office Depot. The eMachine desktop
I bought 3 yrs. ago, and I've had no problems with it; still satisfied.
Last September I bought a Gateway laptop which has been discontinued
since, but it also has worked fine. I was quite surprised that I didn't
have any problems with my wireless connections, etc., as I expected.

I am still a Gateway fan after 12 yrs. and many computers. No service
calls or problems; except locally because of lightning strikes. smile

I had 3 GW p75, P PRO & p400.

My last 3 purchases for myself and family have been local built. Do not have to worry about
crap being loaded on machine and I know where to go if I ever need to get service.
