E1405 with 2GB RAM and Intel GMA 950 integrated video, WXGA+
1440x900 screen. Everest says 224MB is being used for video. So
far, so good, though occasionally the screen might "blink", and
sometimes when coming out of Sleep the unit will be at some
lower resolution. In general, this is fine...

Now, I add a 22" Acer screen with 1680x1050 resolution,
connected by a 15-pin sub-D connector (not DVI).

It does not seem possible to get both screens working at their
best resolutions.

???

You don't need that much video memory, so that's not the issue. The
GMA950 can drive multiple monitors up to 1920x1080 each, as I have done
so with my GX620. As I recall, though, there are issues with some
unusual widescreen resolutions -- although that's just an odd neuron
firing, so I'm not positive.

What's the exact symptom?

Tom

When either monitor is connected, resolution is optimum (as
above). When BOTH are connected, and the hopefully correct
selection is made (monitor plus notebook), one or both will jump
to 1024x768.

And even when no monitor is connected, there are times when the
notebook will come out of sleep and be at that lower res, though
it was at 1440x900 when the lid was closed.
