|
|
Hi All, Putting together a new system and am at a loss trying to
figure out My antec Sonata PSU 450 wiring. The PSU has two wires on
one connector with color coded black and blue.the connector base has
three female slots as well.
looks like this
http://www.mysuperpc.com/build/antec_sonata_pn1_pn2_connector_back.jpg
third from the left
Guessing that this connector goes on the mb for the psu fans thermal
sensor monitor as one fan is going on the psu but not the other.
contacted Antec. help desk has no wiring diagram and they cant say
what it is for? manual doesnt have a wiring diagram and have not seen
anything resembling my wiring on the net for this Sonata Case PSU.
Anybody know what this is and if i am to plug it in,where on the board
would it go?
Thanks............W |

OK. You are talking about the PSU. I don't believe you mean the PSU at
all.
In your picture the connectors look like the ones from the front panel of
the case rather than the Power Supply Unit, which is a self contained unit
in its own metal box usually at the top and to the rear of the case and with
a cooling fan facing outwards from the case and mains power socket. The PSU
has the power connectors for the motherboard (a 20 or 24 pin block
connector), and usually a 4 pin block connector with black and yellow wires,
several disk drive connectors with yellow, black and red wires coming from
it. I'm 99.9999% sure that you are not looking at the PSU connectors, or if
you are, they don't resemble any I have have ever seen,
The connector you show in your picture third from left is colour coded black
and green (not blue), and if it is from the case's front panel (as I'm
certain it is), it's the LED connector to for the usually green LED used to
show that the computer is powered on (as you have an Antec case similar to
one I own, the LED in question may actually be blue). The LED is polarised
+ and -. The Green wire is + and the black wire is -. If you look in the
manual for the P5B Deluxe Wi-Fi-AP motherboard, it will indicate where the
front panel connectors go (its a block of pins on the motherboard near the
front left). Unlike most other manufacturers, Asus helpfully provide little
block connectors loose in a plastic bag for things like the front panel
connections and front panel USB and sound connections. These are simply
easier to connect to the individual connectors as shown in your picture and
fit as one block rather than fiddling around trying to fit each single
connector to the correct place on the board, but you can connect this way if
you wish.
If you are still in doubt, employ the services of someone who has
successfully put a system together before, to assist you, as making the
wrong connection *could* cost you a replacement board, memory, CPU etc...
Admittedly this is fairly unlikely, and the connector you are looking at is
only an LED which if blown wouldn't affect the running of the PC, you just
wouldn't have any visual indication it is powered on, but my feeling,
correct me if I'm wrong and I don't intend to be rude, is that this is the
first PC you've built, or the first for quite a while, as the connectors you
have shown are all pretty much standard fare and have been for a good number
of years. To be fair, case manufacturers don't always label these though as
they just assume system builders know what they are. I can't be certain but
I'm pretty sure that my Antec case had a slip of paper which indicated what
was what on it though.
Good luck

Thank-you for your reply and i apoligize for the wrong picture link.
I should have checked the link when having multiple pages open in FF.
here is a new one.about halfway down the page
http://www.bjorn3d.com/read_pf.php?cID=964
this site calls it a 3-pin fan speed sensor connector but in
black.Wire color is the same as mine.
this connector is part of the PSU wiring and antec didnt supply a
diagram for it in my case box.i does come with a manual however, no
referance to the connector or a wiring diagram in it.

I cannot find a picture of a 450W, but there is a 500W Smartpower II
on Newegg.

There is a closeup, with a label, in this picture. The one with
blue and black, goes to a fan header on your motherboard. The blue
wire carries the tachometer signal, so your motherboard will be
able to measure the RPM speed of the power supply fan. If you don't
want to measure the speed of your PSU fan, leave the thing disconnected.
Sometimes, all your motherboard headers are used up, driving cooling
fans, and there are none left to use for a PSU fan monitoring function.

Paul pretty much nailed it. It's for measuring the PSU fan speed, if
you wish; only need two wires, ground and sensor out. Mine is black and
blue as well (I have the same case/CPU).
That picture depicts the connectors from the front panel of the case,
which plug into the white Q-connector and then into the MB.

Not the one pictured, but the 3 pin, two wire, black and blue wire
connector shown in the link Paul provided.

On my P5B-Plus, it goes to the Pwr_Fan connector, next to the CPU fan
connector (if you want to monitor the PSU fan). I'm sure the same is on
your Deluxe, probably in the same place. |

I Went and looked at the P5B manual and indeed there is a labeled
place for PWR_FAN. I had only seen 5 Chassis Fan connections previous.
