I have a Dell E510 PC, DSL connection. My default web browser is Firefox
2.0.0.3. I also have Internet Explorer 7 installed. Opera too.
Every one in a while, I log into the Dell chat rooms for technical
assistance. I'm fairly certain I have done this with Firefox, yet today I
couldn't log in. The chat room tried to load but never did. I had to use
Internet Explorer. Has this happened to anyone else recently? |

I have no problem doing it, last did so last week. Unless
something has changed since then...

Where are Dell chat rooms?
Dell has chat rooms you can enter for sales and technical
support.
Once there, you chat with Dell reps.
Then the queues were either full or closed when you attempted to
connect. It
may be coincidence that you got in with IE.
I'd assumed you were talking about the forums.
Not the forums, chat for support. Not a coincidence, as I can try it
from two different browsers simultaneously. IE works. FF doesn't.
|
Now I'm trying to think if I've ever used FF for hardware chat. Not
positive.
I got prompted for a Quicktime plugin today when I attempted to do so - but
I just recently moved up from FF 1.5.....
Site must be borked with Mozilla for the moment. |

Occasionally I run into something that only works with Internet
Explorer. I have not had any problems with Firefox though for Dell
chat.
I think public sites targeted for the general public should be coded
for and tested to make sure they run on IE and Firefox at a minimum,
and even better to include Opera and AOL's intenal browser which I
think is IE based.
What really irritates me is when a Mozilla plugin can't be installed
for some reason.
Also, I have run into sites saying that I must have a certain version
of Windows Media Player installed, and I already have that version
installed (now it's version 11).
<soapbox>
I am trying to minimize any "soap box rants" about the MS monopoly so
I will just say that of course MS can make almost any product
successful by including it with Windows and continuously improving it,
wiping out the competition. It's not right and it really makes me
angry especially since I am powerless to do anything about it.

I also assumed you were referring to the forums. Are you talking about the
tech support CHAT where you talk obe-on-one with a tech support person???
Then I suspect it really was a full queu-- that's happened to me.

I was able to log in repeatedly with IE and even Opera. I even
tried to log in to the Dell chat on our other computer also running
Firefox. No go.
