I like Vista on this new laptop and want to keep it. However,
certain important apps run only on XP.
The laptop has a 120GB drive. Can I install XP as well as Vista,
and if so, how?
Thanks! |

Yes, you can but there are some issues.
It's probably better to install XP first; you might want to get a new
drive and start from scratch with that one while keeping your factory
drive untouched (120GB drives are only about $70). Otherwise, before
you do anything to Vista, make an image backup.
You need to create multiple partitions and install XP on one of them
(normally C and Vista on the other one (probably D . What I'd do is
then put all of your data in a 3rd partition (E . With some work, you
can get XP and Vista to both use the same DATA when the same or
compatible software is installed in each OS (for example, the copy of
Outlook installed under XP and the copy installed under Vista would both
use the very same .pst file on drive E . Any software to be used under
both vista and XP will have to be installed twice, separately for each OS.
There is another issue, both Vista and XP will destroy each other's
system restore points. There is no good, easy way around this at this
time, so keep good backups.

If you do it the BING way it overcomes all problem. Both OS are C: drive and
the System Restore points are safe. See these videos.
