I've just bought an HP 3800 scanner and I have a query about the 'HP
Copying' utility. This seems like a great little utility allowing simple
'photocopying' of documents by just pressing the copy button on the scanner
the trouble is its printer settings default to Letter and not A4 so the
printer hangs waiting for Letter sized paper ! You can manually stop the
scan and change settings to A4 but that defeats the object of the single
button press copy facility doesn't it ? If you do change settings it
doesn't remember the change for next time.
Can anyone suggest a fix to make A4 the default setting ?
thanks
Chris

If it's like the old HP copy util I'm still using, it uses the printer
default as the paper size.
See if you set the printer as A4 default if the copy util picks that up.

Have you tried this- create a copy of your printer driver, rename that

copy, change it's default settings from within the printer control
panel, then select that driver as the default driver for the copy utility?
Otherwise, try one of these free copy utilities.
Here are 3 to chose from-

The basic version of Photocopier from Nico Cuppen is free.

Icarbon from idec.ch is free.

Version 3.31 of SimpleCopier from Neogie is free. Go to the bottom of
the linked page and click on the Téléchargement link to download. Don't
worry, you can select English at installation.

Hi MM
Spent some more time fiddling with the printer driver preferences, they are
set to A4, the best I could achieve was to set it to override the
applications settings which allowed it to print but the bottom of the
picture is cropped I guess because HP copier is still working in Letter mode
!

Hi tomcas
I've had a quick play with all three, thanks. SimpleCopier looks good as it
appears to be able to be driven from the scanner buttons and has a neat
'simple interface' for the non-techy members of the family !. Any idea how
I enable the scanner buttons, they still call up the HP copier, do I just
need to uninstall HP copier ?.
thanks
Chris
