Hi,

I've just bought a Dell 1815dn all-in-one machine, which I'm pretty
impressed with so far. However, I'm having trouble working out how to
scan.

I have it linked to my Windows XP PC via USB, and also through the
network in the house via ethernet cable. Network scanning works fine -
from the printer control panel I go through the menu as instructed in
the User Manual and the scan pops up on me PC via the network. But
scanning to the PC directly via USB is not working (and to use the
full functionality of the scanner it needs to). I select "scan" on the
printer's control panel, next I select "PC" then I select an
application to scan to (eg "my documents"). According to the user
manual I should now press the go button (the green arrow). However, as
soon as I select the application to scan to I get dumped back at the
start of the menu structure with "copy" highlighted, so that if I do
press start I just get a copy of the document, not a scan.

This doesn't seem to be a problem with the USB connection: if I go via
"control panel" in Windows and select "scanners" I can interact with
the scanner there, so the USB connection is up and running.

Any ideas? Do I have a duff one?

Cheers!

Martin

Dell advertises 24 hour 7 days a week support. That would be a good
place to start.
