Hi

I've just added a new hard drive to my dimension 3000. I copied the C:
partition from my old drive using Partition Magic 8 which worked fine.
I now have 2 hard drives
with the same data. I want to use the new drive to boot the PC and
eventually connect the old drive as a slave to use as storage. I tried
connecting the new drive on its
own but I get an error message "NLTDR is missing" and the PC won't
boot. I know this message means that the files required to boot are
missing but I thought since I
copied the full C partition from the old drive that it would boot ok?

When both drives are connected the old drive is C: and the new one is
D: and E: (deliberate 2 partitions btw)

Would changing the drive letters over work or should I do a Windows
repair on the new drive?

BIOS picks up the new drive ok and is set to auto and Primary Master
when i try and boot.

Any suggestions so that I can avoid a Windows reinstall?

I suggest starting again by deleting all partitions from your new HD and
running PM from DOS to copy your C: drive to the unallocated space on the
new HD. Don't do this from Windows. When the copy has completed you must
shutdown, remove the old HD from the computer, install the new HD in the
master position and boot to the new HD. After the first boot you can
shutdown and install the old HD in the slave position. You must not have
both HDs in the computer for the first boot.

Let us know what happens.

Yup got it going, Partitioned new drive to c and d and copied old hd
over to it, rebooted from the new c and all is well!

Thanks
