Hello all,

I am trying to solve a problem for my boss. After doing a search here and
looking on the official Brother website I have not found a solution yet. I am
sure this is an easy answer but I do not know alot faxes. What is happening
is when a fax comes in and is printed the fax is dark and dirty and very hard
to read. Since this important to the business I need help with this.

Make a copy. If it's also dark and dirty, then the problem is with the
printing mechanism. Could be that replacing the toner would fix it.
Other supplies may be expensive enough to make replacing the machine a
better option.

If the problem only happens with faxes, it could be something that the
sending fax machine is doing, or just a fax printing setting on the
Brother.

Have you tested this for yourself?

What happens when you send a fax to the Brother from a known working fax
machine? Now what happens when you send the same fax from the same
known working fax machine to another, different fax machine?

In virtually all cases, such problems are solely and directly caused by
the sending fax system.

What happens when you copy? What happens when you print? What happens
when you print a fax transmission/reception report?

It's been happening for about a week. I do not know if all the faxes come in
this way. I know of 3 different faxes we have received from different senders
that the fax looked dark and dirty and unreadable. We haven't sent a fax to
ourselves form a fax that we know works well yet, I'll try that tomorrow when
I am running the mail.
As to copying or straight printing I have yet to do that this week as we use
different printers for different jobs. I'll do the test and reply my results.

Thanks for the very fast responses, I appreciate your time,
Jeff

Brother laser printers often print with a gray (sometimes dark gray) background
when the toner cartridge is getting low. This can happen before the FAX reports
low toner.
If a copy or internal test page produces the same result you should try a new
toner cartridge.
