I set up a new computer, new mobo, processor, memory, old cdrom, old
HD.

sometimes the cdrom is recognized by bios, the cdrom led activates and
the
tray eject works.

When I reboot or restart, the bios doesn't recognize the cdrom, no led,
no
eject working. If I shut down computer and disconnect the cable and
reconnect it goes back to normal on startup. I think even unplugging
and replugging the power will do it. Doing a quick (one attempt) of
switching the hd to ide2. hd is recognized without problems. switched
cables to 2 different separate new cables, no difference.

this is biostar mobo with latest bios, hd on ide0 and cdrom on ide1,
both set
to master.

Sounds like a bad connector, probably power. Or the power supply itself. A
drive should blink and the tray should open/close anytime power is
connected, regardless of any IDE issues.
So the possibilities are: bad power cable, bad PSU or bad motherboard, but I
doubt the latter. I suppose the drive itself could be bad too.
