That's right. Installed mine in Feb with Vista Ultimate. Not one hickup.
Purr's like a kitten. Not even a problem with Vista or the SATA II drive.
Kind of miss the challange. |

I just bought a P965G-DS3 but haven't been gotten around to building
it yet. I hope this is good news for me :-)

That is great. I just bought a GA-P35-DS3P but did not put together yet. I |
hope for the same experience. |

The -DS3 has "solid" capacitors, the -S3 has standard electrolytic
capacitors. The solid caps are supposed to last more or less forever,
electrolytics will last for years (typically 3 to 5, sometimes 10 or
more depending on use and environment), but not forever.

Well my 965P-S3 ran great for, till one day it didn't.
About 6 months after building.
One lock up, sceen would go black then stop responding, then it just
wouldn't boot. All in the space of about an hour.
Tried different everything in it, still unresponsive. Going to give it
one more try before I return it.
You never can tell...
What a bummer! Have you checked the RAM?
What's the difference between the -S3 and DS3?

The only differences from GA-965P-S3 are that GA-965P-DS3 comes with all |
solid capacitor and its LAN controller is 88E8053 instead of 88E8056. |

My 965P-DS3/Intel Core 2 Duo 6600/Kingston Memory (1.8volt memory--can be a
critical issue if your board doesn't come with updated bios!). I've since
updated to BIOS version 11B, so I suppose I have more memory choices
available to me now.
I set it up with Windows XP/SP2 in a long evening (as in all night) 9 months
ago, and it's been running trouble free ever since. I turn it on every day
and off every evening.
I had bought the new hardware with the intention of "upgrading" to Windows
Vista, but those plans are on hold until I start hearing more positive
things about Vista.

Tried all that, all the old components are running fine in a new mobo. Even
purchased a cheap new CPU, and RAM to test old mobo, tested out of case on
non conductive surface, reset BIOS etc.
I've put it aside for the moment as I did have a similar experience with an
Abit board. It appeared dead but apparently wasn't, though it did have a
problem with having two SATA drives attatched to the Silicon image
controller. It was very unstable and required constant disk checks, (making
me think I had failing HDDs). I suspect a dodgy PSU might have contributed,
but I tried a different one at the time when I thought the board was dead.
It was returned as working.
After I got the Abit board back set it up again - initially with 2 SATA
drives, (which is when I discovered it had the SATA problem), ran like crap,
disconnected one and it has run flawlessly ever since. It's been running
virtually 24/7 for about 1 year now and is usually up for about 1 week
before I reboot. I did eventually find a note on the Silicon image website
about some known problem which could be fixed with a BIOS update, but Abit
were never very good at following through on BIOSes once a model was past a
certain age.
Anyway I want to make extra certain this one is dead before I send it back. |

About the only thing Vista might offer the average user is DX10 games, but
since none of them are out, and in any case they will likely support DX9,
(S.T.A.L.K.E.R. still has support for DX 8).
From some of the benchmarks I've seen current games run slower under
windows, considering it's jam packed full of copy protection goodness, it's
no wonder.
Don't forget to check that all of your peripherals have Vista drivers for
the version you want to install.
