I have been using an HP 2110xi all-in-one printer for at least six
years. I am getting an error message, "Remove and check black
cartridge." I have done the following: 1. I removed & checked the
cartridge (of course)--there seemed to be no problem. 2. I cleaned
the contacts on the cartridge and inside the printer. 3. I replaced
the cartridge with a brand new cartridge. 4. I e-mailed HP, & per
their instructions, I cycled the power on and off four times and tried
again. 5. Also per HP, I did a "semi-hard reset". None of these
steps made any difference.

According to HP, my only option now is to buy a new printer. Does
anyone have any cheaper alternatives?

Thanks.

I received a similar message from my PSC 2110(not xi), but in my case a

new cartridge fixed the problem. I would suggest you try a search on "HP
PSC 2110" at www.fixyourownprinter.com. You'll see this is a common
error message with PSC printers, appearing from several causes. Various
solutions are proposed, some successful, others not so much. It may
indeed be that you'll need to get another printer, but that forum will
give you some more things to try first.
