i have a question for you. I need to install or should i say be able to see what i m doing on my monitor but i can not get that going. I just installed a new mobo but it won't let me see anything. I was wondering if you can help me.
I have a ati radeon 9250 video card but it needs to be installed. I can not install it with out seeing anything through a video card and i have no port on the mobo for monitor. what can i do to get this going or is there anything you might think is wrong ,being the reason why I can't? _________________ keep me informed |

Yoa have the ATI 9250 video card but what about the mobo, RAM and CPU..?
First of all are you getting the single bios bleep when you power up? Without this 'bios boot' or POST (Power On Self Test) nothing will happen.
You will get the bleep or be able to access the bios screen with just the CPU, Graphic card and RAM installed the rest can be disconnected... inc. the hard drive, this bios POST should be your first goal as without it nothing will ever happen apart from the fans spinning....
... some mobo's require the use of an internal speaker connected, some mobo's might have one on the mobo, at least if all is well having no speaker should not stop you getting into bios set up screen, the reason for this speaker or 'sounder' is to indicate error codes only.
The first thing I would suggest is to double check the mobo FSB speed settings, usually links or switches... still no joy then it's back to square one ensure the cards are inserted properly... more so the Graphic and RAM cards and that the mobo is mounted correctly and nothing shorting underneath where the mounted screw's are located.
I would leave checking the CPU as the very last thing to do simply to avoid any damage, did you use a thermal pad and removed the backing paper or did you use heatsink paste.. it is all too erasy to bend or damage the cpu pins.

No beep at all , and what if i dont have a AGP card iam using a pci slot for the video. my mobo is a pc chips m927lr socket 423 ,,its old but new.
ram i have a 512mb ddr and 384 total in sdr
p4 for cpu..
internal speaker connected
how do you check the FSB speed settings..what is the FSB
well i know something is wrong if i cant get the bios... so i would be able to get the bios with the card in a pci slot and with the video card not installed on motherboard installed meaning the video card installation cd, it would just pick up the card and bios screen ..

The first goal is being able to get the bios to boot without the bios nothing at all will happen, what happens is..
... you power the computer up, the bios does a self test if all ok it will give the ok signal and will boot up, giving a single bleep and you will if you want to be able to access the bios set up screen... the next stage of events it will hand the control over to the CPU... the cpu will tell the hard drive to load windows and start up programmes into RAM and away you go.
It seems that you are not getting beyond bios boot, if you remove the video card you should get a series of bleeps which indicate an error code, providing there's a speaker of some description mounted internally or on the mobo from it....
The bios battery ain't duff by any chance or is it because you are using a PCI slot and is it configured ?
Without bios boot up you won't be able to load windows, as said previously you will get bios boot up and be able to access the bios set up screen with just the.... cpu, ram and graphic card nothing else will come into play until passing the Power On Self Test.
Maybe the answer is trying a AGP card in just to see what happens.
