Interesting.
Downloaded the new one and it shows my FSB as 2025.0.
I'm running an E6600 at a mild over clock of 3037.3 as shown by windows, and
my BIOS screen, and versions 1.38 and 1.20 of CPU-Z.
What's with that?

And for me (E4300/EVGA 680i) it shows a multiplier of 6X, an FSB of 600 MHz,
and a CPU speed of 1.8 GHz when the actual settings are 9X, 1200 MHz and 2.7
GHz. Just like the previous version. And reports only partial (and
erroneous) information for the memory. Just like the previous version.

FWIW, on my Asus P5N-E Sli, both 1.39 and 1.40 report accurately in all
fields, as far as I can tell.

What I really do not like is that the BIOS for the EVGA 680i reports three
temperatures:
CPU
System
Chipset
while nVidia Monitor reports only CPU and System.
The Winbond chip used in the EVGA 680i can report 4 or more temperatures and
4 or more fan speeds. Because the monitoring applets are so flakey I can
not tell if the fault is that EVGA did not include the simple circuitry
necessary for monitoring or if it is just monitoring applet bugs. I guess
someone will have to find out what is really implemented and even perhaps
write a decent monitoring applet. Considering all the changeable parameters
available when the 680i chipset is used, it is frustrating that so few
temperatures and voltages are reported. Especially since it seems that
nTune only reports the SELECTED voltages for CPU core, memory, chipset
components, and busses rather than the ACTUAL voltages.

I'm using the same MOBO as you, Phil, (EVGA 680i) but with an E-6600. I just
got this system together last week and have been using Intel's "Thermal
Analysis Tool", and CPU-Z 1.40, among others, to do some overclocking. It's
a 2.4 gig chip with a multiplier of 9. I set it to 9 using "auto" and also
manually but CPU-Z would report it as 6 and a lower freq. as well. When I
put a load on it with "TAT" it would go to 9 and the correct freq., which
would bring it up to the 2.4 gig speed that it is. I figured that it was
throttling down while under low usage. I went back into the BIOS and made
sure that Intel SpeedStep and CPU Thermal Control were both "disabled". I
finally noticed the "C1E Enhanced Halt State" setting and changed it from
"enable" to "disable". That did the trick .... now CPU-Z shows the
multiplier as 9 and getting the full 2.4 gigs of speed at idle or under
load. Hope this helps. P.S. Have you tried out the new P-28 BIOS
yet? |
