After spending a lot of time rigging a long-enough data
cable to reach from the mainboard's connector to the top of
the case where my 3.5 floppy drives reside, I see no way in
the BIOS setup to use more than one floppy drive!

Am I missing something?

No. This is common on motherboards in the past 2 years. And it's
incredibly stupid (it takes virtually nothing to support 2 floppy
drives), and it sucks.
