I'm replacing my PC and wondering whether to go to Vista at the same time.
I've tracked down Vista drivers for everything I need, except my Minolta
Scan-Multi Pro film scanner.

Anyone know if this is going to be possible? If I can't use the scanner on
it I'll simply have to have XP on the new box instead, but for other reasons
would like to use Vista if I can.

Thanks,

Peter

I installed my HP 5490C scanner under Vista using the XP drivers that HP
says will not work under Vista. Well, it works for me. Try the XP
drivers. They may work, not withstanding that perhaps they are not
supposed to.

I think that its when vista is installed as 64 bit is when the problems
start.

I don't think that many, at present, will have a computer which is 64
bit compatable. (although mine is - but I use xp)

I think that you are incorrect in saying "I don't think that many, at
present, will have a computer which is 64 bit compatible"

Every Intel Pentium CPU since Prescott has been 64 bit compatible. And
the mainstream AMD CPUs going back even further, since AMD, not Intel,
originated the 64-bit instruction set that we are talking about.

The problem is not the "computer" (or the CPU), it's the software (much
of which is older software that people are still using), and drivers for
the hardware.

People have to come to the realization that while virtually every
computer sold in the past 2 years is indeed fully capable of running the
64-bit version of both XP and Vista, it's just a mistake, in almost all
cases, for almost everyone. There are just too many compatibility
problems, but the problems lie in the software that people want to run
and the drivers for their installed peripherals, not in the "computer"
(meaning the motherboard and CPU).

The question is "why" go to Vista?
NOBODY has answered that question for me yet.

(Another poster here recently was having post Vista Minolta install
questions. I don't know if those were resolved.)

Cheers,
Alan.
