I'm trying to get a gauge on this printer and its typical lifetimes
with moderate use out in the rest of the world..

We have had two of these 6250dp printers.. one purchased in 2004.. the
other in 2005... The one purchased in 2004 had an issue with the
imaging unit not being detected which required a tech to come and fix
when still underwarranty awhile back, meanwhile the 2005 model.. has
now had the same fate hit it, now no longer under warranty and
according to Xerox they no longer service these printers UGG..

Solution I guess would be to find some local outfit to come in and fix
it if the cost was reasonable say under $200-300, as we can get a
newer model of these 63xx for around $1300.

The older phaser has died as of today as well.. the lower tray feeds
the paper, but it keeps jamming "at the registration roller". At
first there was paper stuck in the middle of the printer which
required unscrewing to get it loose.. I fixed this.. but it keeps
jamming desite changing paper and trying everything.

I'm not up on printers like I am workstations/servers, so i'm not sure
how to manually repair these by myself, but I suspect one of the
rollers must be bad in this unit?

At any rate.. at one point I think we were using $800 in printer
supplies in one month on average (very heavy use for printing manuals
etc).

** Is 2-3 years lifespan before problems creep in, typical with this
type of printer? Do most have things repaired or simply replace the
failed unit?

Any thoughts on what might be wrong with either printer and guessing
on cost to fix? At this point I was considering attempting to swap
rollers (not sure which to replace) from the phaser with the defective
imaging unit issue (yes i tried other imaging units too) into the one
with the roller problem.

Thanks for any notes/ideas etc.

Any alternative color printers out there with as good of specs/speed
as the phasers, but perhaps more reliable and less costly materials?
