Ron the reviews have been generally good. Epson still has the issue of
worse ink mileage with the propensity of a higher clog. While the unit
holds all 9 ink carts there are only 8 ink channels to the printhead
requiring the computer to automatically switch blacks when shifting
between gloss or semi gloss or lustre to matte and some of the fine art
papers. The round trip cost of the ink switching is around $5.00. The
photo results were very good.
While the early reviews of the Canon EFT 5000 were very positive
producing the best results the later reviews while just as enthusiastic
about print quality was kind of bleak when discussing reliability,
warranty and other issues including Canon's attitude to its customers
that leaves me cold on this printer.
So right now I would guess that if you need a printer that prints this
large the Epson 3800 is certainly worth of consideration and may be the
best choice. The ink replacement cost (you would not do it all at once)
is about $500 for a complete set of ink.

Thanks Measekite for your input. After extensively reading about the canon
5000 I was put off because canon would not cover the 2 print heads, under
warranty (replacement cost per canon head is $600 per head).

And they would not cover defective cartridges either. Now some say they
may cover them for 30 days. The carts cost over $900.
