I have a computer with a BE7 MB. I have installed 2 DVD drives, one is a
burner and the other is a DVD ram dive the Burner is the slave and the DVD
RAM is the master. I can play DVD's on the burner but not on the DVD RAM. I
get a BSOD when trying to play a DVD. If I connect the burner everything
works ok. I replaced the DVD with another burner and the same problem
occurs.
Replaced cable
Unplugged the secondary drive Master now works with no problem
Both drives plugged in system crashes when master is playing a DVD.
The error message says the problem is cdr4_xp.sys. Installed update from
Roxio.
Updated the video driver to the latest drivers.

Help

TIA

Are you using an 80 wire IDE cable, and if so have you tried jumpering both
drives as Cable Select (CS)?

What operating system are you using? If XP have you checked the advanced
settings of the IDE port to make sure that both drives are using Ultra-DMA
transfers?

As you probably know, cdr4_xp.sys is installed as part of the Roxio burning
suite, have you tried uninstalling the suite to see if the problem is cured?

Which DVD player software are you using? Have you installed all the
available updates for it? Have you tried any alternatives?

Help

What you're basically doing here isn't much different to going to your
doctor and saying "I've got a stomach ache, what's the diagnosis?". In our
case as we can't see or use your computer ourselves, you're going to have to
help us out with some extra info. Answers to the points above would help us
help you.

Yes I am using an 80 wire cable, and it is jumpered for CS. Replaced the

cable and tried jumpering the drives for Master/Slave with no success.

It is XP but haven't checked for ultra DMA transfers.

No but I am leaning toward the software as the drive it works with is the
drive the software came with.
