I have 2 printers. Canon BJC-250 & a HP 3 in 1. Wondering if either
would work with my Apple iBook but can't find a list of compatible
printers. Or --- I could buy a new one if I had a list of compatible
printers.

Hi.
I may be jumping into a trap here, because it seems just too obvious, but
have you actually tried connecting either of them and trying to print.

No. I haven't tried to connect either.
I am a newbie on computers. Have been using a Webtv (and still do) for
internet access for years. But it is totally different.
Webtv has a list of printers that are compatible and will work with
Webtv. It is a very short list. I thought maybe iBook did too.
I think I'm afraid I will 'Break" my iBook if I don't know what I am
doing.

I have OS 10.4, so this may not be applicable. When I go to Printer
Setup Utility and click on ADD, it searches for available printers. It
shows a list of all it finds. I click on one, and it searches its
database to automatically choose the correct drivers. If you don't
agree, you can manually choose a driver from its lists.
I just tried that and clicked on one of my printers. Then I lied to it
and said it should be a Canon printer. The BJC-250 was listed, but
requires Gimp drivers that OS 10.3 may not have.
When I chose HP, the 3 in 1 was not listed. However, it is possible
your printer will work with a driver for another single-function machine.
As Roy G. mentioned, you really need to hook them up and see what
happens when you try to ADD a printer in Printer Setup Utility. As I
recall, OS 10.3 required that you select the connection methods
one-at-a-time, to see if a printer was available.
If you no longer have the CDs that came with the printers, check the
Canon and HP web sites to see if Macintosh drivers are available.

Which HP model? Drivers for the HP printers can be downloaded from
http://welcome.hp.com/country/us/en/support.html?pageDisplay=drivers but you
will need to know the printer model number. Many of the HP printers support
Mac OS 10.3.

Don't be too afraid to play. Back up, and oplay. If need be, you can |
resore the OS with the installation CD or whatever your computer uses. |
