A strange fault has occurred with this, to date, excellent printer (Canon
Pixma 4200). I am receiving the following error message
More than one ink tank of the following color is installed(Cyan8).
Use only one ink per color at a time.
Needless to say there is only one of each color and all ink cartridges are
Canon originals. |

Looks like you have a defective cartridge.

Assuming you just installed a new cartridge my guess is it has the wrong chip
on it. Call the supplier and ask for a replacement. I have seen this
occasionally from a couple of vendors and once with a missing chip.

I replaced the yellow and the magenta recently with no problems re printing.
This error message is a bit of a mystery.. I replaced the printer driver to
no avail

Maybe the chip has failed on one of the cartridges in a manner that causes
incorrect cartridge recognition, if not then your printer may have an internal
electronic failure.
Did this just happen....printing one day and not the next.....with nothing
being done coincident with the start of the problem?

That's right. The printer was working well and then throwing up this
bizarre error message. If I cancel printing an try printing again I am
usually able to print after 3 or 4 attempts suggesting it is not something
terminal.

Got the same(or even more weird) messages on my 4200 over and over
again.
First I obeyed the instructions, but I found out that merely opening and
closing the upper lid solved it for the current print session.
I still use the cartridges that came with the printer.
My son had exactly the same problem with a Canon all in one, using the
same CLI-8* cartridges, but it went away completely after first
cartridge replacement (all original).
The Canon service people (in the Netherlands) were not of any help for
him.
Apart from this, I wonder if cartridge pricing by original manufacturers
is conform European anti-trust regulations.
Maybe it is enough that they (the original manufacturers) tolerate third
party suppliers.

Thanks. Opening and closing the top cover solved the problem. It is a
bizarre fault!

I am also experiencing the same error messages randomly on my iP4200. Mine |
first occurred after transferring chips from used Canon OEM carts to
aftermarket carts. As others have reported simply opening and closing the
top lid cures the problem for a while. Unfortunately this does activate a
cleaning cycle so wasting ink.

The chips are disposable and are not meant for that use.

You should be more concerned about wasting the printer. The ink has
little value.
|
Stop telling lies, Frank. That ink of "little value" is more than half
the cost of a new printer. You should be more concerned about wasting
precious ink. The printer will last far longer than any set of
cartridges and their 3 spoons of ink. Every time it cycles there goes
more ink down the drain, and money from your pocket. |
