I just purchased a Tyan S2882D motherboard and a M3289 SMDC card and I
need help in configuring the M3289 to work.

My S2882D has 3 NICs, 2 Broadcom BMC5704Cs and an Intel 82551. I
cabled the M3289 to the motherboard connector and to COM2 as per the
directions. I also flashed the SMDC firmware to either versions
2882D_178.mhx or 2882BCM_178.mhx. I also cleared the M3289 card
passwords.

I can see the various sensor readings with the util.exe utility but
cannot establish any communication with the SMDC card. I've tried
using both the Tyan TSO software on an external XP box and using
ipmitool under Solaris running on the motherboard.

I getting really confused with the minimal documentation supplied wit
the M3289. Can someone clarify for me which IP and MAC address is
supposed to be set in the M3289? Do I set the IP address to that of
the 82551? Or to one of the other NICs? Do I set the MAC address to
that of one of the motherboard NICs? Or do I set the MAC address to
the label on the back of the M3289?

Which firmware version should I choose for this motherboard/SMDC to
best support Solaris X86?

I'd appreciate any pointers.

Frank
