I read in one of the reviews of Vista that when a memory stick is
inserted into a USB port that Vista responds by asking if you want to
use it as extended memory.
Wouldn't it be nice to do that with XP?
Possible? |

Yes it is possible. Just set the swapfile to use the flash drive. Nice?
Well at best it only boosts the speed up to 7% tops, I have heard. This
is only reported on machines with low memory installed. If you have
plenty, no speed improvement is noted. And flash drives only can be
written so many times and then they die. I don't think you would get
much life out of one that way. Maybe just a few months worth. Vista is
supposed to write less often, so the flash drive lasts longer there.

Agreed. I do not think I would ever waste a flash drive as a swap file. That's
a good way to wear it out for sure. Same with "extended memory" under Vista.
It's a pity that Microsoft wastes software development resources on truly
useless stuff like this... Ben Myers
