Greetings. A friend of mine has asked me to see if anyone in the group
can help him with this problem. He is running XP home and for some
reason, not even known to him, he decided to push the f-10 key. This
sent his system into system recovery. Now his desktop does not respond
to his attempts to open anything via his shortcuts. Is there a simple
solution for this? If we get into the bios , will last known good
configuration help us? He is completely illiterate when it comes to
the pc and I'm not far behind. Thanks in advance fo help and patience.

Not into BIOS. |
Hit F-8 while booting, after the initial screen comes up, but before
Windows starts. This should bring up several boot options, including
"last known good". First try that.
If that doesn't work, then do the reboot and F-8 thingy again, and this
time try "safe mode". Just before safe mode starts, it'll offer a
choice of system-recovery mode or safe mode. Choose system recovery;
and pick a recovery date just *before* this mess happened.
