What to do with old darkroom gear?
Having moved to digital, I haven't used the darkroom for years.
It has a couple of really good De Vere enlargers:
a wall-mounted 5x4 with Ilford Multigrade head;
a free-standing 10x8 with cold cathode head.
Any ideas?
It would seem a shame to throw them away!
Does anyone use enlargers now?

Wait for someone to invent digital printing paper - basically an enlarging
easel with a large CCD sensor. Print to it like a regular sheet of paper,
and bingo - it's in the computer with no developing required. If you get
tired of waiting, try craigslist.com and give it to a school that still does
wet darkroom teaching.

And how is that better than a scanner?
To use existing enlarging skills and equipment.

You mean that you want to do real time dodging and burning instead of
doing it behind a computer?
Somehow it sounds like a complete waste of time to me.
| Quote: | X-ray
machines use a compatible digital film carrier, the same size as the
original film carrier, that is sensitive to x-rays, and provides an instant
image.

And how is that better than a scanner?
I guess that even today you can just project onto a medium format back and
get an image.
But a $100 scanner is very likely to provide a much higher quality image.

That was it. Done. The faulty Monk was turned out into the desert where it
could believe what it liked, including the idea that it had been hard done
by. It was allowed to keep its horse, since horses were so cheap to make.
