|
|
Gateway finally just added upgrade options on their FX530 desktops for
Nvidia 8800 GTX 768MB ($600) and GTS 360MB ($300). In case you are not
familiar with these cards they are DirectX 10 ready which is cool for
Windows Vista and future DX10 games. In product reviews I've read a single
8800GTX vastly outperformed the best ATI CrossFire dual card solution.
Does anyone here own a FX530? I am wondering how they are for gaming. I like
the fact that they have a 700 watt power supply. I am getting ready to
purchase a new computer for 3D first person shooter gaming.
Before Gateway started offering the 8800 today my only other PC to consider
is the Dell XPS 410 with the 768MB Nvidia 8800 GTX. By the way, the 410 has
a 375 watt power supply. Now it's a matter of most bang for the buck and
people's opinions here!

Looking at one of the 530 myself...much better than the Dell XP410 as you
say. The power supply for one and I found out the mother board cannot
upgrade to quad pros like the Gateway mother boards.
I currently have a Dell8400 almost three years and a Gateway laptop on a
wireless network. The CPU upgrade path on the Gateway makes it more
attractive at a better price. I also read somewhere Intel has some CPU price
cuts coming in a week or tow so I will hold off and see what happens at
Gateway
